Walk in Their Shoes 10k

Saturday, April 10 at 10am

Join us for a 10k fundraising walk on Saturday, April 10 at 10am to benefit Axium Education, an educational non-profit that is raising student achievement in disadvantaged rural communities in South Africa. The Axium team works with schoolchildren who face many challenges, including many who walk 10k to school and back each day.

Walk in Their Shoes will support these children’s drive to learn, achieve, and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

Walkers are welcome to join a socially distanced group walking in Concord or plan out their own route. Registrants can tune into a live audio-only call via Zoom during the walk. Emceed by Mike Gathercole, a South African guide who has traveled with many Americans to experience South Africa’s Wild Coast and visit/volunteer with Axium’s staff and students, the call will feature music, interviews, a brief lesson in Xhosa (a “click” language), and updates about Axium’s work. An audio recording of the call will be available to registrants who choose to walk at a later time or date.

Participants can register to walk or sign up to sponsor other walkers. The suggested donation is $25. Register here:
