We walked together: 6th Annual Walk in Their Shoes Success
Date: June 10th, 2026
In early June, from the United States to South Africa, our global community mobilized to walk in support of our nonprofit partners. Whether you contributed as a sponsor, a donor, a local walker, or a virtual participant from afar, your collective support will have a direct impact on our partners’ incredible work.
Across our four host communities, the turnout and energy were incredible:
- Carlisle, MA: 55 walkers—individuals, couples, and families—showed their support on a beautiful walk through Great Brook Farm State Park. The group included many who join us every year, as well as new friends, including our youngest participant of the day, Otto, at just 3 ½ months old.
- Cape Town, South Africa: 65 people joined the founders of two of our nonprofit partners at Keurboom Park for a vibrant Cape Town version of the walk.
- Zithulele Village: Approximately 60 staff members from various nonprofits, friends, and community members walked together along the local roads, surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of the region.
- East London: A dedicated group of Axium staff and friends completed their own local route.
- Virtual Participants: 8 walkers joined us from around the world, proving that distance is no barrier to our mission.
Your Impact: 100% Project Funding and More
While this walk has historically supported Axium Education, we expanded our reach this year. Just over half of the funds raised still supports Axium’s vital work, while the remainder was distributed among our other partners.
Because of your incredible generosity, we are thrilled to announce that we raised nearly $15,000—enough to fully fund every single project request from our seven partners, with additional funding left over to help out even more.
Here is a snapshot of what your contributions are making possible:
- Axium Education: Installation of solar panels and batteries.
- Sihamba Sonke: Funding for 1,650 meals or 40 chess sessions for local youth.
- Zithulele Independent School: Creation of roll-up banners representing the school’s core values.
- Jabulani Rural Health Foundation: Supporting a young woman through the eight-month gap-year skills development program that equips participants with practical, vocational, entrepreneurial, and life skills.
- New Hope SA: Deeper support and aid for weekly community dinners for those experiencing homelessness.
- U-Turn: Providing 400 basic needs vouchers.
- African Angels: Purchasing new atlases and readers for students.
