South Africa June Trip Recap
Date: July 13th, 2021
Thank you to those of you who supported the trip by donating items and/or money for the nonprofit organizations in South Africa. Your generosity meant that we were able to fulfill all of the requests from the organizations with money to spare.
We supplied Jabulani Rural Health Foundation with the following items:
- Nine reference type books for the community library
- A refurbished Macbook
- Embroidery rings
- Looming kits
- Wool
- Knitting needles
- Scissors
We supplied Zithulele Independent School with the following items:
- Over $1000 worth of children’s books, in English and Xhosa
- Homemade journals for K-7 children at ZIS to record their experiences over the years
- White board markers
- Plastic book covers for preserving books
- A new projector
- Gardening supplies for landscaping
- Classroom lights
- A gas bottle and burner
We supplied Axium Education with the following items:
- 70 Individual chalkboards for classroom use
- Soccer cleats
- Small motivational prizes for students
We supplied Sihamba Sonke with the following items:
- The supplies needed for building a nursery and expanding the chicken coop for Heartwood Homestead’s intern’s own garden
- The cost of a Permaculture course and a Regenerative Agriculture course for agricultural internship program
- $1,000 for unrestricted use
We sent $400 of unrestricted funds to our newest partner, Beth Uriel, and we are holding $750 for Phini’s building project for when they are ready to complete the building.
Our partners were incredibly appreciative of the collective effort, and I am very confident that the supplies and money are already being used in ways that have a direct impact on the people these wonderful NGOs serve.
With gratitude,
Amy
