Rebuilding the Zithulele Community Centre
The Zithulele Community Centre is strategically located on NGO-designated land in a prominent spot within the village. Serving as a vital hub, it provides a multi-purpose space that facilitates the reaching of dreams…space for Axium classes and activities, Jabulani workshops, Sihamba Sonke chess classes, overnight accommodation for Grace Vision’s eye surgery patients, Zithulele Independent School events and more.
It is also the only available space for use by the general community for meetings and events.
Since the building has become structurally weaker, it’s clear that demolishing and rebuilding will solve these issues while also creating space for a new community radio station (vital for community communication and education) as well as confidential spaces for future initiatives supporting victims of gender-based violence, addictions and other psycho-social challenges.
While 90% of net funds raised through the 2024 Walk in Their Shoes will support Axium’s educational initiatives, Ubuntu and Axium Education have pledged 10% of funds from the walk to help rebuild the Community Centre in Zithulele, the village where Axium’s operations are headquartered.
